Why a website about invisible electricity?

Abbie · Web designer

Hi, I'm Abbie.

This site started with a pretty ordinary moment. I was generating images for a work project, the way most designers do now: type a prompt, look at the result, discard it, try again. Nothing dramatic about that afternoon at all.

What struck me was that I had no idea what any of it actually cost. Every one of those discarded attempts pulled real electricity from somewhere, and real water too, and there was no meter for it. No running total on screen. The bill for a prompt is real, it's just invisible.

The Invisible Cloud is my attempt to close that gap. Not to make anyone feel guilty about using AI (I use it constantly, this site included), but to make its physical footprint as easy to picture as its digital output already is. A phone charge. A lit bulb. A litre of water. Numbers you can actually feel, sourced from real published research rather than invented for effect.

If you design or build for the web and have ever wondered the same thing mid-prompt, this site is for you.
